My Freshman Year 67-89

I did not really like how Nathan wrote this chapter. I feel like she was very biased in her writing about American students. I felt like she did not take into consideration the cultural differences between American cultures and others. I do, however, agree with some ideas in this chapter. I never thought that when we say "Hi how are you," we are really not looking to start a conversation, but that makes it sound like you want to talk to the person. I can see how a person from another country would be confused living here, just as I would not know the customs if I were living in another country. I feel like Nathan did not touch on that aspect of the situation when she was writing this chapter. When the students said that everyone in the class would eat right after class and it was weird that we did not do that, I thought how is this possible in other countries? Here in the US everyone is on a different schedule and it would not be possible for a whole entire class to go get lunch after a class was done. I know our culture is not perfect, but I feel like Nathan did not represent it right in this chapter.

Ethnography 68-82

As I was reading this section of Ethnography I never knew that there were certain ways in which they had to conduct their research. This started to get me thinking about how I should conduct my research for my project. Should I start to plan it out step by step, or should I use the information that I gain from each part of my project to ask more questions? Should I focus my research on one specific thing or use a broader category? These are all questions that came up while I was reading Ethnography.
